19 Sep Choosing the right name for your new business
Are you in the midst of developing your new business idea, but struggling to decide upon a satisfying business name? Getting the right business name is highly important and will build the foundations of your future brand identity.
Your business name must create the right impression in your potential customer’s minds whilst expressing what your business actually does.
It’s important to choose a business name that reflects the values and personality of your business. Think about how you will want your business to be perceived. You may be attracting a very contemporary or high tech target market or it may be a much more traditional market. Your business name should reflect this accordingly in order to ensure that it will appeal to who you are looking to attract.
You may want to use your own name if you are looking to build a close and personal relationship with your clients. Using a name that clearly identifies what you do can be highly effective, especially in regards to building your online presence. Choosing fancy, creative names can work within the right market. However, it’s worth investing the time in order to find the right business name which in turn will hopefully prove a success in the future.
Some other factors to consider are how your business name is spelt and is it easy to pronounce (i.e. over the phone). Complicated names may prove an inconvenience in the long run. Also a name that is too long may become a problem, especially when applied to your business stationery or workwear. Whilst taking all of these things in to consideration one of the most important things to check is the availability of the website domain name (namesco) and also whether or not the business name is already registered at Companies House.
Finally, once you have decided upon a name, test it with your friends and family. If it fills you with confidence and achieves the desired reaction, it may just be the right decision!
